Free Patterns: Seventeen Seeds & Rye

Happy Friday Pom Pom fans! It’s a gorgeous autumn afternoon here in London and we’re all excited for our well-deserved weekend after last week’s long haul at Ally Pally. However, before we lock up at Pom Pom HQ and head out into that autumn sunshine, we thought we would share two special patterns with you!

On the blog today we have Rye and Seventeen Seeds, created by knitwear designer Saranac Hale Spencer. Pom Pom is best known for our collections of women’s garments and accessories and these two ties certainly work to style an oversized collar shirt or dress. However, today we thought we would rustle up some boys in clean shirts to help show off these ties. Men are often tricky to knit or crochet for but hopefully with Rye and Seventeen Seeds at your fingertips you’ll now have a few ideas.

Rye is a vintage-inspired chevron tie. We absolutely love how chevrons naturally create that perfect tie point. We’ve used Heichi by Shibui, a worsted weight silk. Download the pattern here!

For Seventeen Seeds, we chose Sarah Tweed by BC Garn, a luxurious DK silk and wool blend. We think the combination of natural texture of Sarah Tweed and Moss Stitch goes hand in hand together for this uber-hip skinny tie. Download the pattern here!

The idea for these ties originally came from Saranac’s waning deadline for Christmas presents. Now, we know its only October and hate to mention that C-word but wouldn’t it be nice to start early on your knitted gift list? I’m sure some of you already have, but now thanks to Saranac you can squeeze another two small projects in!

Well, we certainly hope that your weekend is fantastic with these new projects in your library. We just might have to enforce a knitted tie dress code here at Pom Pom HQ! Don't forget to add your own Seventeen Seeds and Rye to Raverly - we've always got a great knit-along (with prizes) going.

Have a lovely weekend! xx

Saranac Hale Spencer knits in the German style, like her grandmother, and finds wool wherever she goes. She’s filled her tiny apartment with balls of yarn, which her bloodhound, Beulah, enjoys unwinding. When she isn’t busy in her job as a newspaper reporter, Saranac is inventing new things to knit with her needles. You can find her on Ravelry as DefargeKnittery and her shop is at defargeknittery.com.
