Pom Pom was founded in 2012 as a quarterly that presents knitting, crochet, and craft in the modern, beautiful, and meaningful way we’ve always known it should be. Mainly conceived as a collection of patterns complemented by thoughtful writing and useful tutorials, we also celebrate the joy of making, hopefully without taking ourselves too seriously!
Since our kitchen table beginnings, we’ve gone on to feature some of the most well-known and loved independent designers and yarn producers, with some of the less well-known also growing along with us. We are so proud and lucky to be able to say that Pom Pom Quarterly is now stocked at over 700 locally-owned yarn shops and book stores across four continents and 20 countries.
At Pom Pom we know that knitters are creative, curious people – so we also include lots of other features we think you’ll enjoy – from cocktail recipes, to dyeing tutorials, to articles about 18th century paper cut artists! Basically anything we think will inspire you. We also take pride in every detail of our magazine, from the typefaces we use right down to the paper we’re printed on – knitters are tactile people after all! We have always been, and continue to be, printed in the United Kingdom.
Pom Pom continues to grow, and we very much value each and every one of you along with us on the journey! We are so excited about bringing you more thoughtful, beautiful, joyful, educational, and inspirational knitted (and crocheted!) goodness for a long time to come.
Lydia Gluck (She/her) ― Co-Founder & Creative Director
Lydia was born in London, grew up in Wales, and studied in Manchester, before returning to London via Mexico. She recently moved again to the fine city of Norwich where she studied for an MA in Fine Art, specialising in quilting as her primary medium. Lydia has always had a crafty streak, dabbling in everything from woodwork to paper mâché. She also has a background in linguistics (her first academic love), and enjoys trying to draw parallels between knitting and grammar. When she is not making things with yarn, string or fabric she can be found singing or horse riding.
Meghan Fernandes (She/her) ― Co-Founder & Creative Director
Meghan is a former American transplant to London, where she lived for a decade. While in London she wrote her MA dissertation on knitting in 20th century women's literature and worked for a publisher, a gallery, and a knitting shop, leaving her with a random but particular set of skills that could really only lead to running a knitting magazine. She is now based in Austin, Texas, where she lives with her husband, two young daughters, three cats, and a garden full of zinnias. She revels in the challenge of making and enjoying knitwear for a hot climate.
Amy Collins (She/her) ― Managing Editor
Amy studied Fine Art in Manchester before returning to her home town of Farnham, where she put her organisational skills to use as a craft event organiser and became absorbed in the indie knitting world. She moved to London and joined Pom Pom in 2014 to continue her knitting adventure. She is now back in Farnham where she enjoys weekends watching football and going for long walks, preferably in the woods, with her partner and little boy. She knits almost exclusively jumpers but one of these days will fulfil her annual New Year resolution of learning to crochet.
Sophie Heathscott (She/her) ― Wholesale Manager & Community Liaison
Sophie learnt to knit when she was knee-high to a sheep, and after moving to London to study Design at Goldsmiths, she wove herself into the knitting world and joined Pom Pom in 2016. Managing the wholesale accounts, she enjoys connecting with LYSs all over the world (and maybe one day she’ll visit them all!) You’ll also see her at knitting events where she loves meeting and making Pom pals, chatting projects on the Ravelry forums or producing and co-hosting the Pomcast. Sophie can often be found baking and pottering in her tiny garden, all while working on perfect puns for every occasion.
Anoushka Haroutounian (She/her) ― Retail & UK Studio Manager
Noush is Pom Pom’s retail and London studio manager, where her love for organisation is in full flex! She fell in love with knitting whilst studying textile design at Chelsea College of Arts, where she also discovered machine knitting, which she uses to knit lots of colourful pieces. Noush’s family is Armenian, and she lives with her two best friends in south London (her favourite place). When she’s not running a tight ship at Pom Pom’s London HQ, you can find her cycling around, practising yoga, or at the pub!
Francesca Baldry (She/her) ― Features Editor & US Wholesale Manager
Francesca joined Pom Pom with an extensive professional background in art and a love of words. Her Jessica Fletcher-esque, Maritimer grandmother taught her to knit and the spark was rekindled in 2010, when Francesca relocated to London for work and first encountered knitters creating quality, contemporary garments that celebrated plus-sized bodies. Coming from a dispersed family of migrants, Francesca has worked in Japan, Italy, America, Canada, and England, and speaks 4 languages very badly.
Gavriella Treminio (She/her) ― Social Media & Digital Content Coordinator
Gavriella was born and raised in Austin, Texas, where she enjoys spending time with her family and her fibre. Her great aunt taught her to crochet as a child, but she didn’t pick fibre back up until learning to knit in her early twenties - teaching herself via YouTube! She also loves cooking for anyone who comes to her home, true crime podcasts, and reading as many books as she can! As a creative, Gavriella enjoys learning how to make new things as often as possible. So if you don’t find her behind the screen creating cosy scenes for knitters, you will definitely find her learning a new craft, with a glass of wine in tow, on the weekends.
Jasmine Payne (She/her) – US Wholesale Manager
Jasmine is an avid knitter and longtime Pom Pom reader. Over the course of several years and meet-ups at TNNA, her love for Pom Pom has only grown, and she joined the team in 2021. Jasmine has been knitting since 2008 and has never put down her needles. She has traversed many aspects of our beloved industry including retail, wholesale and yarn production. Her love for Rhett, her little Chihuahua mix, can only be denied by his lack of handmade knits, as Jasmine is a selfish human knitter, but generous knit giver.
Gayle Taliaferro (She/her/hers) ― US Studio Manager
Gayle grew up in Austin, Texas and serendipitously joined Pom Pom in 2016 as the second member of the US team. When she’s not knitting or befriending woodland creatures in the Texas Hill Country with her family and cats, Gayle manages goings on around our Austin studio. She, along with our wonderful packing helpers, make sure orders for US shops and customers are prepared with the loving care they deserve! With a background in design and fine art, Gayle has dedicated her life to supporting artists and participating in the arts. She deeply values being a part of Pom Pom’s unique voice and normalising important conversations. You can find her gazing at the stars at night, passionately discussing pop culture, and enjoying all the beautiful little things that surround us.
