It's an Intarsia Tutorial!

As part of our #PomPomRedwareKAL we are celebrating intarsia! So we decided to create a tutorial to share, in case some of you want to join the knit-along but haven’t tried intarsia before (or maybe you have but you are a little rusty!). We promise it’s easier than it looks, and the results are sooo satisfying! These drawings show the basic technique of interlocking your yarns when you switch between them, applicable to almost any pattern that uses intarsia, and certainly applicable to the #Redwareshawl ✔️

We are running this KAL until 6 April 2025 along with Redware designer Catie Robbins of Fiction Fiber and she’s on hand too for any of your Redware queries, cheerleading, and/or trouble-shooting. Don’t forget she’s offering prizes too! Here's what's on offer:

The grand prize will include the gorgeous set of SIX skeins of her 100% Organic Merino DK, including colourways Bothersome Banana, Sordid Strawberry, Parsimonious Persimmon, Pandering Pawpaws, Lurking Lychee, and Burglar Blueberry (see pic above0, plus her zine Fanny gets a Boyfriend; Or Does She? Issue No. 1: Trying to Make Out (a literary zine about an alien yarn dyer written by Catie herself!), the pattern for the Sleuth Beret (shown below), and a Science Fiction stitchmarker!

So without further ado, here's a little hand-drawn tutorial to help you with the concept of intarsia - which is actually a lot easier than you might think!
Want even more intarsia inspiration? Check out some of our faves, including the Ardent Tee, Palindrome Wrap, Etel Cardigan, or Periphery Hat. Also pretty much anything by Sylvia Watts-Cherry, including the Quite Contrary Vest, Paragon Pullover, or Tortoiseshell Pullover
And don't forget we have an intarsia video tutorial too!
