Episode 15 - With Melanie Gall

Hi Pomcast Peeps! Another month has gone by and we're here again with our knitting themed blend of edu-tainment (it's educational and informative guys!)

Make sure to download the Soundcloud app if you want to listen on a mobile device, or if you subscribe to Pomcast on iTunes it should appear on your device now! And while you’re having a listen, why not rate us or even leave a little review – thanks!

This episode is sponsored by Kettle Yarn Co. with a special introduction of this Pom Pom favourite's first series of patterns - The Boardwalk Collection. Inspired by a day at the seaside, the designs capture the excitement of the smells, sounds and vibrant colours found along a British boardwalk.

Featuring six vibrant designs from Rachel Coopey, Isabell Kramer, Maria Magnusson, Renée Callahan, Rachel C. Brown and Linda Lencovic the collection spans summer to autumn with heirloom items you'll love all year! The designs range from accessories to garments, each knit in one of Kettle Yarn Co.'s new vibrant colourways; Peony and Marigold provide a softer counterbalance to the bold brights of Purple Reign, Verdigris and Neckinger, and the eye-searing Padparadscha! We have two skeins of this gorgeous yarn to give away...

Just tell us which of the Boardwalk collection designs is your favourite by commenting on this post before Sunday 9th August to be in with a chance of winning. Extra points if you tweet, share on Facebook or Instragram! Just let us know that you did in a separate comment.

If you can't make it to a beach this summer, then you can experience the fun via the Boardwalk Collection KAL on the Kettle Yarn Co. Ravelry forum. Launching August 1st, you better get your needles at the ready and join in!

Tell + Tell

Sophie has not let her knitting trouble beat her... and is persevering with Sous Sous and her Fika socks. Lydia is locked into a neck and neck battle with Meghan. Who will finish their Greco first? Only time will tell...

News + Reviews

The main news we have is of course the release of our Autumn 2015 issue, which is imminent. We are sure you have already seen the previews on ravelry, subscribed and shared your excitement on our forums... but if you haven't check it out!

On the review side of things, we discuss the Kettle Yarn Co. Boardwalk Collection, plus we have a swatch with the yarn that accompanies this set of patterns, the gorgeous BFL and silk blend Islington DK.

Interview

We had a lot of fun chatting with classically-trained musician Melanie Gall, and found out more about her research into the lost knitting songs of WW1 and WW2. Catch this funny lady performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

She also played us at our own game and interviewed Lydia and Sophie for her podcast The Savvy Girls Podcast - have a listen if you fancy finding out more about the magazine, the podcast and being a knitter in London.

Ravelry Realness

Tiny knitted things - pointless or cute? Please discuss. Well, while you debate that, here are some patterns that fall into the category of 'teeny weeny' and also 'adorbs'.

Top Three

... Albums. Battle of the bands! Listen to find out what we chose. These tops 3s are getting trickier and trickier! If you have any suggestions for top 3s that you would like to hear let us know. You can either email us at podcast@pompommag.com, or you can join in the chatter on our ravelry forum. See you there!
