Episode 19 - With Fiona Alice + Pom Pom Press

Hello Pomcast fans!

It just started getting wintery here in London, and winter is a good time for us knitters as you all know. Having dug out our winter woollies from their summer hibernation, we are all ready to bring you episode 19 of Pomcast, in which Sophie and Lydia chat, giggle, and ponder. Sometimes all at once! Listen away now!

Make sure to download the Soundcloud app if you want to listen on a mobile device, or if you subscribe to Pomcast on iTunes it should appear on your device now! And while you’re having a listen, why not rate us or even leave a little review – thanks!

Thanks again to our awesome sponsors for this episode, Blacker Yarns. Blacker have been such enthusiastic supporters of this podcast, helping to bring us to your ears! They produce a wonderful range of British yarn all spun and dyed here in the UK. We highly recommend taking a look at their beautiful things.

Tell + Tell

Sophie finished a Kouyou Shawl (for her Mum’s birthday!) knit it in Quince & Co. Chickadee in Poppy, and has pretty much finished her Karusellen. Lydia has been working on Abram’s Bridge, and is very excited to wear it now that it's actually getting chilly!

News

We are of course incredibly excited about our third annual Pom Pom Christmas Party, this year being held at one of our favourite ever bookshops, Foyles, and as always there will be live music, revelling and knitting! Tickets have sold out (thanks guys!) but we have two to give away to one of you lucky listeners! Just comment on this blog post telling us which of our brilliant vendors you are most excited to see at the party by Sunday 6th December to be in with a chance of winning. Extra points if you tweet, share on Facebook or Instragram! Just let us know that you did in a separate comment.

This is a bumper month for Pom Pom news, as we are preparing for the release of our first ever book, Take Heart: A Transatlantic Knitting Journey by Fiona Alice. We are so excited to show you a few more teasers of what you can expect from the book, published by our newest incarnation as Pom Pom Press. You might remember Fiona's design Take Heart from Pom Pom issue 7, and if so then this book is most certainly for you. The book will be available from December 9th and we'll be officially launching it at the Christmas Party in London on the 11th! Tune in for your chance to win a ticket to the sold out party, as well as get the lowdown on our newest venture!

Reviews

Our yarnie review was the Blacker Gotland which is a beautiful sturdy wool with a slight sheen. We thought it was absolutely lovely, and highly recommend reading all about Sue Blacker's Gotland sheep, who are apparently particularly mischievous!

We also reviewed The Fibre Co.'s new collection Nordlándda, 8 lovely accessory designs by Rachel C. Brown The Fibre Co.'s Tundra, which is a lovely wintry yarn.

Interview

For this episode we interview the wonderful Fiona Alice, author of our first ever book, Take Heart (woop!). We talk to her about colours, cats, travel and of course there will be a few sneak peeks of what to expect from the book!

Top 3...

...children's books! Sophie and Lydia compiled their three favourite childhood reads. Listen to find out what they chose! The anticipation!
