Episode 26 - With Juju Vail + Thea Colman

Hello Pomcats!

We hope you are having an excellent summer so far. It's been a little rainy here in the UK, but we are using the indoor opportunities to make things from yarn. Always a shiny silver (woolly) lining! And to add even more shine, we have our latest episode of pomcast ready for you all, featuring special guest host Juju Vail alongside the lovely Sophie. You will no doubt recognise Juju's name as she is a long time Pom Pom collaborator, and author of many patterns and books, including Juju's Loops! Ready? You can listen away here:

Make sure to download the Soundcloud app if you want to listen on a mobile device, or if you subscribe to Pomcast on iTunes it should appear on your device now! And while you’re having a listen, why not rate us or even leave a little review – thanks!

We also have a very exciting skein of Feel Good Yarn Co SilverSpun to give away, which you can hear all about in our review. To be in with a chance of winning, comment on this post telling us which of this yarn's very special properties you are most interested in by Sunday 10th July. Extra points if you tweet, share on Facebook or Instagram! Just let us know that you did in a separate comment.

And also thanks to our sponsors Oxford Yarn Store, a knitter’s haven located in the heart of the famous English university town.

Tip Top, Top Tip

Juju was off to a flying start as host with her tip about intarsia bobbins. You can see what she means in our tell and tell section below...

Tell + Tell

Mmm...mohair. Pattern is Nontroppo by Asa Tricosa, spot the exciting bobbin!

Juju is also planning to make Vitamin D by Heidi Kirrmaier. Meanwhile Sophie has finished some multicoloured socks and is musing on a Pianissimo scarf in an awesome Uncommon Thread Les Fleurs - it would seem our hosts are loving bright colours for this summer!

On a ‘Knit’ to Know Basis

So what do you knit to know about? Well Juju recommends you check out the Wardrobe Architect Series on the Colette blog, which is a series of exercises and worksheets to help you define your personal style - useful for makers and shoppers alike! Sophie offers the comedy series The Dectectorists as her latest favourite.

News + Reviews

This month we were at TNNA in Washington DC. Here are Meghan and Lydia with our newest Pom Pom team member, Gayle!

In other news you can catch our Issue 17 samples (including lovely Catchfly worn above by Lydia) at a trunk show in Oxford, UK, at the Oxford Yarn Store, who are also our sponsors for this episode! Thanks guys! You can see, touch, and even wear the samples there from the 1st until the 21st July.

Review

Sophie and Juju sing the praises of SilverSpun from Feel Good Yarn Co which is not only a surprisingly knittable cotton, but is also antibacterial and conductive due to the silver! Listen to find out more. Don't forget about our giveaway! (see beginning of this post).

Lydia and Meghan were lucky enough to meet Thea Colman, also known as Baby Cocktails, at TNNA, and were able to pin her down and ask her a few classic Pom Pom questions. Thea is a wonderful designer and we were lucky enough to have her as a contributor for our Summer issue this year, she was of course the designer of the versatile Olivette (pictured below).

Thanks so much to Thea, who is not only a talented and fun designer but also has possibly the best radio voice we ever did hear!

What Would Juju Do?

A new little feature we want you to be involved with! We want you to put your craft-based dilemmas and queries to an expert (email us at podcast@pompommag.com) and we'll put them to Juju! Juju, The Making Guru!

Top Three...

Juju and Sophie review a few guilty pleasures (last month's topic) and chat about their top 3 ways of wasting time before bed!

We always love to hear you suggestions for top three and for anything else you want to hear about, so remember you can always get in touch on the Ravelry forum or podcast@pompommag.com

xxx Pom Pom

Thanks again to Oxford Yarn Store!
