Episode 42 - Pomcast Live!

Hello Pomcats! This month is an extra special episode as we have a recording of our first ever live Pomcast. At Pomfest we hosted an episode a little different to our usual set up, but with just as many puns, special guests and knitting fun (maybe even more?...)

Thanks to our kind sponsors this episode The Yarn CollectiveThe Yarn Collective collaborate with independent knitwear designers such as Bristol Ivy, Carol Feller and Melanie Berg to curate yarn collections. Offering luxurious hand-dyed yarns in a range of fresh and vibrant colourways, these bring together the skills of the dyer and designer along with the finest of fibres.

We're very happy to say that we have three skeins of The Yarn Collective to giveaway. Two skeins of Bloomsbury DK merino curated by Carol Feller in the colours Moss and Violet, and one skein of Pembroke Worsted curated by Bristol Ivy in the colour Spessartine. To be in with a chance of winning we want you to fill in the blank of the following sentence - 'When we say Pom, you say BLANK!' Get creative, we can't wait to see your answers. Make sure you post your comment before 6th August 2017 as entries after this point will not be counted. Good luck!

Make sure to download the Soundcloud app if you want to listen on a mobile device, or if you subscribe to Pomcast on iTunes it should appear on your device now! All episodes of Pomcast are also now available on Stitcher too. And while you’re having a listen, why not rate us or even leave a little review – thanks!

For our special Pomcast Live, we invited our producer and friend Eli Block to host the evenings frivolity and entertainment. We kick started the night with a series of challenges which included identify the Pom pattern (by touch alone), draw the median sheep and our own version of Blankity Blank/ Match Game. Thanks to our volunteers who get involved in the fun too!

WWJJD

Juju Vail then joined us on stage for a live version of What Would Juju do! Thanks to Melissa Poynton, Claire McCarthy and Emily Eroen for sending in their questions. Did you know Juju is the guest editor of our upcoming Autumn issue? More news about Issue 22 coming very soon....

KNITTING HORROR STORIES

Regular listeners will remember our Halloween special where Eli read your scary stories of when crafting goes wrong. We had a star studded story time with terrifying tales from Julia Farwell-Clay, Clara Parkes and Pomfest organiser Amy Collins.

MUGGLE QUIZ

Our wonderful Pom friends and family were then pitted against each other as we quizzed our non knitting pals (aka muggles) in a test of their knitting knowledge. Big thanks to (left to right) Sophie's sister Kate, Eli Block, Lydia's dad Jeremy Gluck, our copy editor Annie Prime.

TOP THREE WITH THEA COLMAN + REBECCA LAWRENCE

Cocktail professionals Thea and Rebecca join us for top three!

KNITTING IN THE DARK

We ended the evening with a sing song! It's no secret that we are a fan of the parody knitting song (a niche genre perhaps) and now you too can sing along to the tune of Bruce Springsteen's 'Dancing in the Dark'.  And yes, the evening ended with a stage invasion of dancing knitters!

JOHN ARBON DJ SET

We then put down our knitting and kicked off our shoes to have a dance with DJ John Arbon. From spinning yarn to spinning discs (and yes, we will keep making that joke).

Our heartfelt thanks to Fig Tree Yarns who sponsored Pomcast Live and thanks those who donated prizes for Pomcast live - Jill Draper, Fine Fish Yarns, Norne Yarn, Woollen Flower, Beyond Measure, Viola, Karin Öberg, Julie Asselin and Loop.

We'll be back next month - pom on!
