Episode 49 – Hannah Maciejewska and Zoe Fletcher

Hi Pomcats, this month we're coming to you live from Edinburgh Yarn Festival. We've got festival fever this episode as we catch up with the interviews we recorded at Unravel, recount our fun at Edinburgh and also have a fab festival sponsor in the form of Woollinn.

Make sure to download the Soundcloud app if you want to listen on a mobile device, or if you subscribe to Pomcast on iTunes it should appear on your device now! All episodes of Pomcast are also now available on Stitcher too. And while you’re having a listen, why not rate us or even leave a little review – thanks!

News

As we mentioned, Pom Pom has been on the road at Unravel and Edinburgh, thanks so much to everyone who came by to say hello! We were very happy to see so many Pomcats excited about new projects they have started from Issue 24 and Interpretations Volume 5.

Meanwhile, plans for our next big publication are well underway! We're working with Emily Foden of Viola Yarns on a collection of knitting patterns, we can't wait to show you everything this Autumn. In the meantime, here's some behind the scenes photos of the shoot in Canada, a stone's throw away from Emily's dyeing studio.

If you need thawing out after those snowy scenes, let us warm you with the thought of our summer party! We've teamed up with The London Loom for an Issue 25 launch and summer knit night on 8th May. Party goers will be the first to have the chance to buy a copy of the new Issue 25 and have an exclusive preview of the summer samples in all their stripey glory. There will also be a chance to dabble in some weaving courtesy of The London Loom, and The Wool Kitchen will indulge our summer skein needs with a pop-up stall on the night.

Reviews

As well as choosing our favourite knits from Issue 24, we have a closer look at Fine Fish Yarns Shimmer Sock. The delightful mix of merino, nylon, and magic sparkly stellina makes for beautiful socks, pictured here is Kipper from Issue 1 that Sophie is knitting. We think it's pretty fine indeed!

If you fancy netting yourself some of this Fine Fish, Terri will be at Woollinn in May! And lucky you, thanks to our sponsors we have two Woollinn General Admission tickets (for the day of the winner's choosing) and a trio of gorgeous Irish yarns from Townhouse Yarns, Studio Donegal, and S Twist Wools (pictured above). To enter, comment below letting us know your favourite Pomcast moment, be that an inspiring interview or your tip top Top Three and we'll choose a winner at random. Next episode is our 50th one, so your pick could be included in our best of!

Interviews

While at Unravel in February, Sophie had the pleasure of chatting to two stars of the woolly world! You'll know Hanna Maciejewska from her Issue 18  pattern Thessaly and we found out more about her designs and teaching.

Our second interview is with Zoe Fletcher, who we describe as a wool explorer! Zoe explains all about her PhD research on British Wool - here she is with some of the 'tools' she created. Find out more about her project here.

Top Three

Did you get caught up in 'The Beast from the East'? If you've been giving the current weather the cold shoulder, let your mind drift to the magic that can be a flurry of snow as we recount our top three favourite things about snow.

See you next month Pomcats for episode 50!
