Episode 39 - Short Rows Bonus Episode with Sonja Bargielowska of Blacker Yarns

Hi Pomcats! We're back with a mid-month treat of one of our bonus podcasts - or as we like to call them our 'Short Row' episodes. We've got all the latest Pom Pom news and a chat with the lovely Sonja Bargielowska of Blacker Yarns - and speaking of Blacker, they're our sponsors, hurrah!

Blacker Yarns specialise in producing pure, natural, ethical yarns that embrace and enhance all the unique characteristics of different British breeds. Their ranges include both breed specific and blended yarns, including a newly launched mohair blend which is ideal for knitting no-nylon socks.

Make sure to download the Soundcloud app if you want to listen on a mobile device, or if you subscribe to Pomcast on iTunes it should appear on your device now! All episodes of Pomcast are also now available on Stitcher too. And while you’re having a listen, why not rate us or even leave a little review – thanks!

NEWS

We're counting down to our birthday bash Pomfest in July! We'll have the full reveal of who you can expect to see at the marketplace coming very soon, but we can tell you that our Knit Along sponsors John Arbon, Coop Knits, La Bien Aimée, Kettle Yarn Co. and Julie Asselin will be joining us. Woohoo!

Of course there is our Friday night 'party within a party' Pomcast live as well! Don't forget we want your craft disaster stories for Eli to read out (just like in our Halloween episode!) and questions for What Would Juju Do so send them along to podcast@pompommag.com. Oh and make sure you have your ticket!

Thanks to our Pomfest sponsors Loop and our Pomcast live sponsors Fig Tree Yarns.

It's also a treat to reveal Issue 21 to you folks! If you haven't checked out the previews on Ravelry yet, where have you been?! Pre-orders and subscriber copies are currently making their way to you now. Lydia has her sights on making a pair of Festoon socks while Sophie can't wait to cast on Soirée (pictured below).

And don't forget our Issue 1 Reboot! We've given our very first issue a fresh lick of paint!

INTERVIEW

Is life at the Devon mill as idyllic as it sounds? Well, yes it would seem it is. We chat to Sonja about wonderful wool, her role and yarns at Blacker, and how your knowledge on 90's sitcoms creates great analogies for fibre...

We also learn more about the process behind developing new blend Samite. For a behind the scenes illustrated peek you can see Katie Green's sumptuous illustrated story in Issue 21!

REVIEW

After all that talk about the new Samite blend we had to get some on our needles too! We loved the crunchy structure of this yarn and it holds its shape after blocking beautifully. We think it would be amazing for a rustic Wick Lane!

Sounds good? Well we have three skeins of Samite up for grabs and the lovely folks at Blacker have given you a choice of whichever shade you fancy! To enter simply comment below letting us know which colour you'd like most. Make sure you enter before 26th May as entries made after this date won't count.

Thanks for listening! As always we love to hear from you folks. You can either email us podcast(at)pompommag.com or join in the chats on our Ravelry group. We’ll be back at the end of May again with another regular sized episode!
