Stained Glass
Issue 49: Summer 2024
As the light begins to linger, watching it stream through windows and doors is one of the most enjoyable parts of the summer. Stained glass has been used since ancient times to make the most of natural light, tinting it to create glowing works of art that cast colourful shadows. These transparent or semi-transparent works encourage us to not only look through, but to look at glass in a new way.
For this issue, we want to see summer pieces inspired by this way of playing with light. From color-blocking and geometry, to confetti glass and organic shapes, light can be manipulated through glass in so many ways. We can’t all have huge decorative stained windows but we can have little pieces of art in our homes disguised as everyday objects. That’s how we see our handknits too, as works of art that become familiar with everyday use.
As this is a summer issue, we are looking for warm weather makes, including accessories. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
