Bandana PDF pattern by Meghan & Lydia of Pom Pom!

The Zigzag Bandana is an extremely versatile pattern. Pretty much any yarn will work, with varying fun results. We've included photos and information for eight versions using different yarns to give you just a taste of the possibilities!

A single colour changing yarn, mohair, scraps, linen, wool, and more all feature. Use what you have, or try out unusual colour combinations. This pattern is a low-risk way to experiment with colour, texture, and scale! Almost any sport to worsted weight yarn will work and you won't need much of it!

The Zigzag Bandana is knit from one tip to the other in a super simple chevron stitch. The pattern is written for two sizes - a little version and a slightly less little version. The little version is less wide than the bigger one. You can make these any length you wish, but we've included length dimensions as a suggestion.

Once you complete the increases at the beginning of the bandana, it's very easy to memorise the stitch pattern and all wrong side rows are just plain knit stitches.

The pattern includes video tutorials for all the techniques included, so don’t be put off if you’ve never tried a stitch pattern like this before. We have you covered!

Gauge: Between 18-32 sts x 16-30 rows = 10cm / 4" over zigzag stitch pattern depending on preference

Note: Your gauge will vary according to the yarn you choose and your own personal tension (see following page). If you use a lightweight yarn (laceweight to sport-weight, and 5 mm / US 8 needles, your bandana will have a lighter, airier feel than if you use DK to worsted weight yarn. The thicker the yarn, the more dense, and potentially bigger your bandana will be. There are no wrong answers! Just your personal preference.

Knitting needles: 5 mm / US 8 straight or circular knitting needles.
Always use the needle size that gives you the correct gauge after blocking.

Notions: darning needle, locking stitch marker or safety pin (optional)

See photo at left for details on which yarns were used for each sample.
