Episode 43 - with Guest Host Juju Vail

Hey Pomcats! We haven't had our fill of working with the talented Juju Vail just yet, so we've invited her along to host this month's podcast with us. We're talking colours, cloth, skeins, and sewing - let's go!

Make sure to download the Soundcloud app if you want to listen on a mobile device, or if you subscribe to Pomcast on iTunes it should appear on your device now! All episodes of Pomcast are also now available on Stitcher too. And while you’re having a listen, why not rate us or even leave a little review – thanks!

This podcast is sponsored by Woollenflower, a small craft-based company in Glasgow, Scotland. Woollenflower evolved out of various craft interests in Australia and brings together wool, plants, and pattern. As well as reclaimed tweed pouches and colourwork knits, their focus is on naturally-dyed yarns in small-batch, one-off colourways inspired by and sourced from the natural landscape of Scotland. Woollenflower incorporates a variety of different bases, from woolly, bouncy native Shetland (perfect for colourwork and cosy garments) and luxury, fine-gauge blends that, held together, work beautifully to form complex textures and subtle colours. Woollenflower can be found at www.woollenflower.com and at yarn festivals around the UK and Europe.

NEWS

We're fantastically excited that our Autumn edition is now in the world! This issue saw us inviting Juju to be our first guest editor and bringing her love of pattern and colour to the pages of Pom Pom. We chat about the inspiration behind this issue, a lot about the colours brown and black (check out yarns from The Uncommon Thread and John Arbon that we reference) and Juju's adventures at the Design Museum.

You can buy your copy of Issue 22 here, plus the digital option of this issue is also readily available to you too. Make sure you join in all the fun with our Autumn KAL on our Ravelry group and if you are knitting any of the delights from Wool Journey: Shetland, make sure you enter our dedicated Wool Journey KAL too!

TELL + TELL

Everyone in the Pom team is currently planning or knitting the Palmetto cardigan, designed by Emilia Jensen, from Issue 22! Above is Meghan's delicious grapefruit version in Dandelion Yarns Rosy Sport. Juju is also thinking about a cozy Overcheck cowl while Lydia is searching for the perfect yarn to make Elibelinde.

Also, don't even think about starting a Diesis before you check out Alice Caetano's interactive colouring jumper widget! We can safely say there have been many combinations created in the Pom office already.

REVIEW

We're swooning over some naturally dyed Woollenflower mohair. A delicate lace weight mohair and silk blend, perfect for airy accessories or giving a halo of texture when held double with another yarn.

Courtesy of our lovely sponsors we have two skeins of this Plant Dyed Laceweight Kidsilk to giveaway! To be in with a chance of winning we want you to comment below letting us know what is your favourite pattern from Issue 22!
Make sure you post your comment before 10th September 2017 as entries after this point will not be counted. Good luck!

INTERVIEW

If you're a dedicated Pomcast listener, you'll know that Juju was our first interviewee. We settle down to talk more about Issue 22 and the merits of constructing a handmade wardrobe. Did you know that all the knits in this issue have been paired with commercially available sewing patterns? We chat about companies who lent support for these garments, Ray Stitch and Merchant and Mills - thank folks! Juju has tips for your first steps into sewing, plus where to get your fabric printed if you want the ultimate customised outfit. Speaking of printed fabric, we also mention Emilia Jensen and her digitally designed textiles (check out the article in Issue 22).

WHAT WOULD JUJU DO?

Of course with Juju joining us, we had to take this opportunity to ask What Would Juju Do? Lydia needs some sewing advice (did she mention, she loves sewing now!). Pictured is a detail of her Brumby Skirt with successful topstitching, fabric is khadi cotton from Raystitch and linen from Merchant and Mills. Sophie asks about her 'knit it too long' Tinea cardigan woes. You can send your queries to our craft agony aunt via podcast(at)pompommag.com

TOP THREE

We talk top three craft tools!

Thanks for listening! We'll see you next month for more podcast fun, in the meantime you can always join in the chat on our Ravelry group and get in touch with thoughts and suggestions via podcast(at)pompommag.com
